Music of Japan
Hogaku is the Japanese word for music. There are several types of hogaku. The first known music style native to Japan was Gagaku, or court music. Some other popular styles native to Japan are Nohgaku, Biwagaku, Sokyoku, Shakuhachi, Minyo and Shamisenongaku.

A Brief History of Japan
"Today Japan consists of the four major islands of Hokkaido, Honshu, Kyushu, and Shikoku, a few sizeable nearby islands, and innumerable islets."(Russel) Natives to this country speak Japanese, the most common religions are Shinto and Buddism, and the currency is Yen. Though heavily westernized today, Japan is the home of many unique tradtions such as the Kanda Matsuri festival in Tokyo (the capital) and the training of Geishas for entertainment. One of the most popular traditional foods of Japan is Sushi, a widely recognized dish recreated in countries all over the world. The Karaoke machine was invented in Japan. Japan has made many advancements in entertainment and arts that continue to influence people world wide.
